A stone memorial on a traffic island between the High St and New St.

The war memorial is in the form of a triangular stone pillar
standing on a two stage base. Each side is slightly concave. At the top of the
pillar is a plain cross on each side.
The names of the fallen are inscribed on the three sides of
the pillar and two sides of the base. On one side of the base is the
inscription
REMEMBER
THE MEN OF THIS
PLACE WHO DIED FOR
FREEDOM AND HONOUR
A 1914-1918 D
A 1939 – 1945 D
The memorial was unveiled by General The Lord Vimy on the 17th July 1921. The dedication was
performed by the Bishop of Chelmsford.
The monument was designed by Basil Olivera and
executed By Holloway Bros.
