According to their website, the Hall of Fame was founded in 1979.
"During a gathering of the Rodeo Alumni at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 1979 a proposal was made to organize a Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. Further meetings were held resulting in the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association being formed. It became a registered association on June 19th, 1980. In 1981 the Association was granted tax free status as a charitable organization by the Government of Canada."

Their mission is also listed on their home page as being an "association founded by dedicated rodeo enthusiasts, “To honor and distinguish outstanding contestants, animals and builders in the Canadian Rodeo Arena. ”Our aim is to annually induct qualifying individuals to the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and display artifacts of the history of pro rodeo Canada."
