Catoctin Iron Furnace was in operation from 1776 - 1903. It was a community in itself. Founders, miners, clerks, charcoal makers, storekeepers, teamsters and others came together under the Iron Master's supervision. A furnace stack, the Iron Master's Manor House ruins and self-guided trail are at the site. It is easily handicapped accessible. It is in a park-like setting with trees and a picnic table, so bring a lunch.
