The area where the gazebo is placed used to belong to the Church, and the contiguous building was a Summer escapade for the bishops of Faro. There is no date for the gazebo, but a nearby fountain was built in the 18th Century.
Unusually, there are no fixed stairs to the gazebo's platform. Obviously some ladder of some kind would be attached to the structure whenever necessary.
