Cumbres Station was a regular passenger stop on the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad until January 31, 1951. It is now a stop for water on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Its proximity to Colorado Highway 17 at the summit of Cumbres Pass provides the avid railfan a twice-a-day opportunity to capture the majesty of narrow guage steam locomotives in action.
