Playa Porto Mari is a sandy bay and scuba diving mecca located at the western end of the island of Curacao. Although situated on a private Plantation estate, the beach itself is accessible to the public year-round.
Like most beaches on the island, its terrain consists of both fine white sand intermixed with somewhat coarser crushed shell and spotty patches of dead coral remains in some specific areas. The beach is quite narrow but offers plenty of shade and gazebos throughout its 275m length, and is a true paradise for water lovers: its unique "double" coral reef is easily accessible from the shore and offers something for both snorkelers and scuba divers alike. For landlubbers, two nature trails start right at the beach parking lot, offering several vistas over the bay and the beach itself.
Local amenities at the beach include a bar and restaurant, a dive operator, showers, and restrooms. Lounge chairs can be rented for a small fee. The beach is open daily from 9:30am to 6:30pm.
All activities at Playa Porto Mari are managed in an environmentally responsible manner: water is recycled and used for the toilets and irrigation purposes, the boardwalks are made from discarded pallets, and all publications are printed on 100% wood-free recycled paper.
