NY0469 - USC&GS 'H 546' - Algoma, OR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1954 in excellent condition. It is imbedded in a large boulder just south of Algoma Rd. in the small community of Algoma. This benchmark is listed on a topography map as 'BM 4149.9'.

This disk is very difficult to get to during warmer months because of thick vegetation. The NGS datasheet info is adequate for station recovery. My posted coordinates will place you very close to this benchmark.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 10.9 MI N FROM KLAMATH FALLS. 9.9 MILES NORTH ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD FROM THE STATION AT KLAMATH FALLS, THENCE 1.0 MILE EAST ALONG THE OLD U. S. HIGHWAY 97, ABOUT 100 YARDS EAST OF THE EAST END OF A CONCRETE AND BRICK STORAGE BUILDING, AT THE BASE OF THE NORTHWEST END OF A FOOTHILL, IN THE TOP OF A BENCH ON THE NORTH SIDE OF A 6- BY 6-FOOT BOULDER PROJECTING 4 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, 61 1/2 FEET EAST OF POWER LINE POLE 9/12 WITH A TRANSFORMER, 30 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 1.5 FEET NORTH OF THE TOP OF THE BOULDER, AND ABOUT 4 FEET HIGHER THAN THE HIGHWAY.
