Philip (Dinges) Dingus was born about 1774, and christened on September 7, 1777 at Labanon, PA at the reformed Lutheran Church, and died in May of 1831 near Wood in Scott County, Virginia. He is buried in the family cemetery near his home place along with other members of his family. Phillip came to Russell County in South West Virginia about 1803 with his wife of about four years, Nancy McConnell and her half brother, George McConnell. Nancy had a son before the marriage named Thomas McConnell. The land that Phillip owned in Russell County was near Dickensonville. In 1821 he bought land in Scott County from Issac and Jane Lowe on the banks of the Clinch River. In 1823 he bought 18 acres between Bushes and Hickson Creeks. Between 1821 and 1823 he moved his family to Scott County. Nancy lived several years after Phillip's death, and is buried in the Dingus family cemetery on the River bluff. Today there is a stone marker placed at the cemetery by Wayne G. McConnell that reads: Nancy McConnell Dingus ca 1778 - 1845 Phillip Dingus 1774 - 1831 and members of their family.
