The Lake County Veterans Memorial is a large stone monument with two brass plaques. The larger plaque was erected in 1950 honoring Lake County veterans who died in World War I and World War II. A second brass plaque was added in 1978 honoring veterans who died in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. The monument is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Center and F Streets.
The Korean War/Vietnam Conflict plaque reads:
IN MEMORIAM KOREAN CONFLICT LARRY L. PARMENTIER VIETNAM CONFLICT LAYNE F. CLIFTON - PAUL A. SHEER JAMES B. CARLSON - HOWARD M. GIFFORD ERECTED 1978 |
Passersby through downtown Lakeview will find it hard to miss this stoic stone monument that stands tall and proud. Let's hope this monument continues to stand tall and proud for generations to come.
