Dorr Eugene Felt started building the mansion in 1925 and finished in 1928. He built the mansion for his wife Agnes and their married daughters and their families. The mansion was 12,000+ square feet with 25 rooms and a third floor ballroom. Agnes died six weeks after they moved in and Dorr died a year and a half later. The family sold the mansion in 1949 to St. Augustine Seminary, which they used it for housing. In the late 1970's the State of Michigan bought the mansion to use a portion of it for State Police and WEMET offices. In the early 1990's Laketown Township bought the mansion for $1.00 with the stipulation it be used for the public and not private enterprise. The mansion is now restored to its 1920's splendor and can be rented or toured for a charge. There are claims of "shadow people" and doors opening and closing during the tours. People have claimed to someone or something peering out of the second floor windows.
