The Hung Far Low Restaurant opened in 1928 and operated on the 2nd floor of this building until the restaurant moved to 82nd Avenue in 2005. The sign was taken down during a 2008-2009 renovation of the building, which currently houses the Ping Restaurant. Citzens of Portland (often boisterous), rallied to have the sign returned, and it was, for the cost of $77,000. The sign weighs 2000 pounds.

In case you are wondering, Hung Far Low translates to "almond blossom fragrance".
