The old lifeguard tower and headquarters was termite-ridden and on the virge of collapsing under its own weight. Friends of the Powerhouse mounted a fund-raising effort to help replace the failing structure with a modern building that would stand up to the elements for a long time. Donors to this fund-raiser have decorative engraved pavers mounted on a low wall next to the beach at the end of the newly completed structure.
