According to the history of the Barry County Southern Baptist Association, Oak Ridge Baptist was originally a Southern Baptist Church going back to 1884. Although they are slightly different "flavors" of baptist church, the BCSBA temporarily called itself the Barry County Southern Missionary Baptist Association (what a mouthful!) from 1955 through 1968, according to the history booklet entitled
100 years of the Barry County [Southern] Baptist Association (1883-1983) by Pauline Cox. In 1969 it dropped the Missionary out of its name and went back to being just the BCSBA.
I don't know when Oak Ridge Baptist left the Southern Baptist Convention. But perhaps it was when the BCSBA removed the erstwhile Missionary from its name in 1969. Perhaps Oak Ridge preferred to stay a MBC. At any rate, that is history. The neat electronic sign indicates that the church is trying to keep up with technology.
The church is about 4.8 miles northwest of Cassville, as the crow flies, or about 5.5 miles by Ozark roads.
