Lafayette Spring is a natural spring east of Cannelton, IN. It is located on Hwy 66, just east of the Cannelton Locks and Dam.
The location is historic because it is where General Marquis de Lafayette had a steamship crash going up the Ohio River on his way from Nashville, TN to Louisville, KY. After the crash, he spent the night at this location before being picked up the next day by a different steamer.
The sign at the location reads:

LAFAYETTE AND HIS PARTY SPENT THE NIGHT IN
THIS COMMUNITY AFTER THE STEAMER
"MECHANIC" SANK IN THE OHIO RIVER MAY 9,1825.
PIONEERS CAME FROM MILES AROUND TO VISIT
