The fountain is in the front of public market of St-Hyacinthe. The land where it is erected was offered by R. Jones at St-Hyacinthe's peoples in 1879. The inscription, in the granite, reads:
"At Caroline Jones, his wife, died on Oct 2 1872, by affectionage on Jones R.A.A , signor of Dessaules.
"I will give to him that is a thirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Bible, John. 4:14"
"To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Rev 21:6"
Robert A. Jones is the seignor who bought the Dessaulles land for 32,000$, when this one was given to the auction in 1835. Dessaules was an active seigneur. He bought, sold, and granted lands. Notarial records show, for example, 200 land grants for the years 1826 and 1827 alone. He busied himself with building a road, a dam, and a sawmill. He surrendered rights on an island to allow the construction of a bridge, and on lots to be the sites of a market and a court-house. That's why this location was taken by Robert Jones for is fountain.
