This is one of three Queen Anne cottages built by the Simpson family on the block between 18th Street and Mill Creek around 1890. It is a primary contributing historic structure in the Court Street-Chemeketa Street National Historic District. It was built by Charles H. Simpson as his own home on land purchased from his parents, David and Julia A. Simpson. After his passing, his wife Alice and three children continued to live at this house; Alice sold the cottages in 1917.
