Im Jahre 1635 liessen sich die Franziskaner-Observanten in Rheine nieder. An ihre 1660 geweihte Kirche St. Joseph fügten sie 1662 das dreiflügelige Konventsgebäute an.Nach der Aufhebung 1811 diente es als Schule und Gericht. Die Kirche wurde 1822 abgebrochen. 1887 und 1938 wurde der Treppenturm und das Obergeschoss hinzugefügt. Seit 1910 befindet sich hier das Rathaus der Stadt Rheine. Nach Bombenschäden im 2. Weltkrieg wurden die Aussenwände und das Dach neu gestaltet.
English:
In 1635 the Franziskaner-Observanten sat down in Rheine. To her 1660 consecrated churches Saint Joseph they added 1662 dreiflügelige Konventsgebäute. After the abolition in 1811 it served as a school and court. The church was broken off in 1822. In 1887 and 1938 the stair tower and the upper floor was added. Since 1910 the city hall of the town Rheine is here. After bomb damages in the 2 world war the outer walls and the roof were anew formed.
