The Acropolis of Athens lies in the middle of the capital of Greece: at 150m of elevation, it is 80m higher than its surroundings with a flat oval top approximately 150m wide and 350m long: one can reach the top only by foot (with marked trails everywhere) but the views are well worth it.
Due to its central location and higher altitude, it is the perfect place to get a glimpse of the entire city in all directions. The hill offers wide panoramic views all around its protected edges, allowing for many photographic opportunities regardless of the sun’s position during the course of a day.
A few words about Athens itself:
The city metroplex area dominates the Attica region for kilometers on end, in all directions. While the vistas will often include and endless array of modern buildings and rooftops, the surrounding hills provide a topographic perspective to the overall distances, while glimpses of the Saronic Gulf can be seen from the Southwest edge of the site. Last but not least, Athens *is* one of the world's oldest cities with a recorded history spanning over 3,400 years: several ancient structures can be seen speckled among the more modern buildings.
