The church was officially opened in December 1875. Its cemetery is listed as having exceptional significance by the NSW Government's Environment & Heritage Office as it documents the history of Albion Park from the mid 19th century to the present. The inscriptions on the graves provide a large amount of data about the early English and Irish settlers in the area.
It is also adjacent to the Catholic Church cemetery which is of a similar age & the two being so close together is rare. The Environment & Heritage Office describes this closeness as "An important part of the significance of each is this juxtaposition".
There are over 500 graves in this church yard cemetery.
