The female figure, slightly larger than life-size, dressed in robes is mounted atop a granite pedestal. In her hands, right hand at the top and left hand beneath, she is holding in front of her at chest height what appears to be a governor from an early steam engine.
Behid her and to her left side is a three legged stand. Atop it is a sphere, probably a globe, that has meridians running up and down and parallels running around it. Around the top of the stand are relief carvings.
On the front edge of the base of the statue is the word "Science" in capital letters. Along the right side, as viewed, are the names Farmer and Brindley, the sculptors.
