Sammy The Sea Lion has been a popular attraction beside the Tanker Jetty in Esperance for many years. The jetty is also a popular fishing spot, and many successful fisher-folk clean their catch and throw the fish-guts etc into the water, where Sammy is the main beneficiary.
The sculpture of Sammy The Sea Lion is just 50 metres away from the spot beside the Tanker Jetty where Sammy The Sea Lion puts on his regular show.
"Sammy" is an original bronze sculpture generously donated by local artist Chris Siemer, and he sits on a rock crafted and donated by Hans Spengler of Esperance. It was placed here "to gratefully receive your donation towards the preservation of the Esperance Tanker Jetty. The jetty is an integral part of the heart and life of Esperance for residents and visitors."
