Spokane Falls is composed of two widely spaced, distinctly separate steps. The Lower Falls is a manmade waterfall over a powerplant diversion dam. The Upper Falls is a segmented waterfall with about half of the water flow passing on either side of Canadian Island. The southern flow past the island is comprised of a distinct block step followed by a slide. two former vehicular bridges now used for pedestrian and bicycle traffic plus two pedestrian suspension bridges provide many opportunities for photographing the Upper Falls.
