The monument is dedicated to the many emigrants who left the Canary Islands in earlier times to the wide world due to the poor economic situation or political reasons.
The sculptor and poet Fernando Garciarramos designed a human figure in bronze, two meters high, placed on a stone base. It shows a man with his many suitcases, the striving toward the sea. In his breast gapes a large, round hole: The emigrant leaves his home, but he leaves back his heart.
The monument of the Emigrante Canario is a gift of the the association "Chicharros Mensajeros" to the municipality of Garachico and was unveiled on August 3, 1990.
The inscription reads:

Iniciativa de la asociación
