The McDonnell RF 101 Voodoo was first available for the conflict in Vietnam. It was one of the first tactical aircraft to fly over Laos and North Vietnam. It was a day reconncaissance aircraft, however it did perform well in all weather conditions and developed a limited night photographic capability.
The Voodoo was conceived at the end of WWII as the XE 88 and took 12 years to finalize and build as a supersonic single palce twin engine tactical fighter. The reconcnaisannece version the RF 101A first joined the Tactical Air Command in March 1957. Two years later two reconnaissance squardrons convetered to the the stronger RF 101C Voodoo.
