"The winner of an invited competition involving a pedestrian, and Park + Ride Bus bridge crossing Fabian Way ( A483 ) near Port Tennant. The Client specifically requested a cable-stayed bridge type. Our cable-stayed solution involves a single, forward inclined mast inspired by the idiosyncrasy of its placing on a very oblique angle across Fabian Way. A leaf-like mast, with cable attachments recessed into its cavities, supports a spine beam separating the pedestrian and bus lanes, from which two decks are cantilevered. The twisted arrangement of its back stays adds to its attraction. Completed in 2007 it cost £ 3.8m.
It won: the Structural Steel Design Awards 2008 Commendation for high standard of design ( as the only bridge shortlisted ), the 2008 European Convention for Constructional Steelwork Certificate of Merit and the IstructE Centenary year Structural Awards 2008 / Award for Transportation Structures Commendation."
