This is the first of a series of "artisan benches" planned by the Bow Valley Ranche society to line the walkway from the Bow Valley Ranche House (now The Ranche restaurant) to the Artisan Gardens, another project by the society. Ten benches are planned, to be created by sculptor Gernot Keifer. Two were in place by August 2012.

This bench features edges ornamented with carved ivy leaves. A ribbon twists its way through the leaves from one end of the bench to the other. The words on the ribbon read:
"'Never be afraid to sit awhile and think' Lorraine Hansberry"
