The Bahrain World Trade Center is a 240 m (787 ft) high 50-floor twin tower complex located in Manama, Bahrain. It is the first large-scale building in the world to integrate energy-saving wind turbines into its overall design.
Although the structure may evoke comparisons to Dubai's "Burj Al Arab" hotel due to its contours resembling two sails of a ship, what truly sets this building apart is its embedded energy-saving functionality: the two sail-shaped towers are linked via three skybridges that tie the two “sails” together, each holding a 225kW wind turbine aligned to the North towards the direction of the prevailing wind coming in from Persian Gulf. The sail-shaped towers on either side are designed to funnel wind through the gap thereby providing an accelerated wind movement through its turbines.
The twin structure currently ranks as the 2nd tallest building in the country and has received several awards from international architectural associations, including:
* The LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum) Award for Best Use of Technology within a Large Scheme, and
* The Arab Construction World for Sustainable Design Award
