These spouts are still in use to carry
the water away from the openings in the upper parts of the tower at the corner
of the building.
The building, the Europe Arab Bank, is
Grade II* listed and the entry at the English Heritage website [visit
link] tells us:
"1890-93 by Aston Webb and Bell.
Corner building in modified Flemish gothic style. Portland stone with polished
granite base. 4 storeys plus 2 storeys of dormers in slated roof. Corner
entrance with richly carved oriel above, rising to slated spire. Steeply hipped
roofs at each party wall and prominent
chimney-stacks."
