Guido Nincheri (1885-1973), artiste canadien prolifique et talentueux, a conçu ce magnifique décor intérieur. Les fresques constituent un splendide exemple des décorations murales exécutées au pays, de la fin du XIXe au milieu du XXe siècles. Nincheri a entrepris son projet en 1928 en ayant recours à l'affresco. Apprise en Italie où il est né et a été formé, cette technique, rarement utilisée au Canada, consiste à peindre directement sur le plâtre frais. Mariant avec adresse les arts de la peinture, de la sculpture, de l'architecture et du vitrail, il a créé ici l'un de ses plus remarquables chefs-d'oeuvre.
Church of Saint-Léon-de-Westmount
This splendid interior was designed by the prolific and talented Canadian artist Guido Nincheri (1885-1973). His wall paintings are an outstanding example of mural decoration, which was popular from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. Beginning in 1928, he executed these works in true fresco, a method of painting directly onto fresh plaster rarely used in Canada, but mastered by Nincheri in Italy where he was born and trained. In this church, Nincheri combined architecture, stained glass, painting and sculpture to create one of his most remarkable masterpieces.
