William H. Byrd House - Salem, Oregon - Victorian Style Architecture on Waymarking.com

This Queen Anne house was built in 1887 for George Collins and was originally located at 197 Court Street (the northwest corner of Court and Church streets, now the site of the ill-fated Courthouse Transit Center.) A few years after construction, the house was purchased from Collins by William H. Byrd. Dr. Byrd earned his medical degree at Willamette University in 1881 and practiced in Salem for nearly 50 years. Byrd purchased this lot in 1905 and had the house moved here the following year. In the next several years, Byrd also purchased the adjoining lots to the south, having three Bungalows built there. Dr. Byrd never actually lived in this house but gave it as a wedding gift to his son Clarence in 1921. Dr. Byrd died in 1929. Until at least the 1980s, the house was still occupied by Clarence's daughter Martha Byrd Blau.
