F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Garden can be found inside Science North, a hands-on science museum.
The glass-enclosed environment features about 400 free-flying tropical butterflies and dozens of flowering, fragrant plants. You can watch butterflies emerge from pupae and take a close look through powerful magnifiers. Science centre exhibits further explore the world of butterflies and moths.
There is an admission fee, however, patients at the nearby Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre receive unlimited free access . It is hoped that the serenity of this tropical environment will provide some measure of therapeutic benefit to patients in treatment.
