Seljalandsfoss is one of the most dramatic waterfalls in Iceland. A trail will take you behind the falls if you don't mind getting a bit wet. The river Seljalandsá begins in Iceland's icy interior and empties into the North Atlantic just a km or so from the falls.
The waterfall is visible from Highway 1 and there is excellent parking a couple of hundred metres from the waterfall. A well-beaten trail will take you to the base of the falls and then you can continue behind and all the way around to the other side. The rocks and grass are slippery in the summer and I bet it's very icy in the winter so watch your footing.
Because it is so easily accessible, this is a very popular stop for independent travellers and tour buses so if you're here in the summer you'll likely have some company.
It was a waypoint during the first leg of The Amazing Race 6, an American television show.
