In Lowell, along Dutton Street, is the headquarters for The Sun (also known as The Lowell Sun), the local daily newspaper for the Lowell Metropolitan Area.
The headquarters are located about 100 ft north of the intersection of Dutton, Thorndike, and Fletcher Streets. The entrance is on the left. The main entrance is to both the American Textile History Museum and The Sun.
The newspaper serves the Lowell Metropolitan area, which includes towns in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It has a circulation of about 43,000, according to the Wikipedia article. The Lowell Sun is now part of the MediaNews Group, based in Colorado. It is included in their MediaOne New England region, which includes newspapers in Fitchburg, MA; Brattleboro, VT; and other locations in Massachusetts and Vermont.
John and Daniel Harrington started The Sun as a weekly in 1878 as a voice for the blue-collar workers against the owners and senior managers of the textile mills there. Over the years, The Sun acquired the other papers until by 1952, when it became the only paper in the city. In 1997, the paper, then still family-owned, was acquired by MediaNews Group.
