Long Description:
In 1791, George Washington made his Southern Tour where he
visited the major cities of the South in order to visit all parts
of the new American nation. From May 18-21, Washinton stayed in
Augusta, GA, where he met with Governor Edward Telfair and other
"principal gentlemen of the place."
A marker commemorating Washington's visit to Augusta was erected
on the grounds of St. Paul's Cathedral in 1999. Please be
respectful of the cemetery which is in a constant state of
research.
