The small agricultural community of Yerington does not seem to have done much of anything to celebrate their centennial. The entirety of information about their official status as a town beginning in 1907 and the centennia celebration in 2007 is limited to one sentence on the local Rotary Club web page: "
In 2007, as part of the Yerington centennial celebration, we purchased and installed the clock in front of the downtown post office.
There is some rather amusing history predating the establishment of Yerington when it was first named "Pizen Switch" and then Greenfields. But none of that information extends past the year 1894 when the town was trying to get the railroad to bring tracks to their town by renaming the town after a prominent railroad official. The railroad never came, but the name stuck. It appears to be the only town by that name anywhere in the world.
