Ida L. Herod was born the same year that the Bronx Zoo opened in New York City. When opened it housed 843 animals in 22 exhibits.

The final resting place of Ida Herod is at the far southeast corner of Fairlawn Cemetery, just north of the entrance gate. This is an upright, double marker with the following text:
