In 1808 the first wave of the Napoleonic invasion of Portugal faced increased resistance. In the (by then) village of Olhão, a major riot forced the French to withdraw. Following this victory, a group of 15 men was sent in this tiny boat (well, one looking just like this) to Brazil so they could report the events to the king of Portugal whi by then had seek refuge in the South American colony.
