A popular climb whilst at the Heights, the views are best to the east and south due to high trees to the north. The tower is not far from the top station of the cable car, the easy way up!
There is an information board near the base which has the following wording:-
The Victoria Prospect Tower
The Victoria Prospect Tower
was completed in 1844. Built
to take advantage of the
panoramic views, it also helped
to provide work for the
unemployed at the time who
used both ingenuity and local
stone in its construction. It
stands 244 meters (800ft)
above sea level, is 12.2 meters
(40ft) high and has 54 steps.
On the east face just below half-way up there is a carved tablet with the words:-
VICTORIA STAND.
1844.
I.P.
...presumably the architect or owner of the land at the time. Above the tablet is a crudly carved head.
The parking coordinates are for the railway station car park from where it is a short walk to the base station of the cable car.
