For a full description of the uses of the previous building on this site see the Web Address below. The current building was erected in the 1860s and is now occupied by Freeman Johnson, Solicitors.

Previous to this it must have been a bank as witness the lamp over the front entrance on which can be made out the word BANK etched into the glass. Whose bank this was I have not been able to determine.

The wording on the plaque beneath the agency name and Town Crest is:-

                  THE GUILD HALL,
               LATER THE WORKHOUSE,
                STOOD ON THIS SITE
                 FROM 1444 UNTIL
                      1858.
