It was originally built around 1845 for the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway, which then amalgamated and formed the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway in 1847.
These days the line is called the Huddersfield Line and carries trains between Huddersfield and Manchester. The line is operated by Northern Rail.
The bridge was originally a stone single skewed arch bridge across both the canal and tow path. At some point the arch has been filled in with what looks like concrete and the opening for the canal boats has been narrowed. The side of the bridge at water level has a thick wooden plank attached to protect it from boats.
Bridge Type: Arch

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
