Ridgley Southern Baptist Church is a well-attended church located in a ghost town in Barry County, Missouri. The area had once been a thriving town when the Missouri & North Arkansas railroad went through it. This branch of the railroad connected Neosho with another town that is now ghosted: Wayne, north of Washburn. When the branch was removed, many towns, including Ridgley, began a decline.
All that is left now is three churches, a summer camp and half a dozen houses or less. There is no post office here, so addresses in the area are assigned to Exeter, MO. Ridgley Baptist Church is the biggest concern here. It is 5.0 miles from Exeter as the crow flies, or 5.8 miles by road.
Since the place still known as Ridgley has less than 100 people living there, each Sunday the attendance at the 3 churches swells the "population" to more than double what it is the rest of the week - perhaps triple, or more.
According to the 1919 Minutes of the Barry County Southern Baptist Association, this church was organized in 1911.
