It carries Whitelands Road (B6170) over the canal and although the bridge has been widened at some point the original arch is still visible.

As well as the arch over the canal there is a second narrow arch that crosses the canal tow path. These days the tow path is used by people walking along the canal, but originally would have been used to take the horses that pulled the canal boats.

Just past north west side of the bridge marks the junction of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Ashton Canal at Whitelands Basin. The bridge crosses the canal at a skewed angle presumably because the road was already there before the Huddersfield Narrow Canal joined on to the Ashton Canal head on.

There is a lock on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal right next to the south eastern side of the bridge. It is so close to the bridge that there is no room for normal arms on the lock gates and the gates are electrically operated. On foot it’s impossible to see whether the bridge has also been widened at this side of the canal.
