In Boston's Readville neighborhood is a police memorial on the Wolcott Square green.

The monument is located on the south corner of the green, near the MBTA bus stop. The monument is a light stone monument about 4 ft high. The words on the face showing outward are as follows:

"Boston Police Officer
Bomb Technician
Jeremiah J. Hurley, Jr.
of Readville
"Jerry"
Husband Father Son Brother
Friend and Public Servant
[Boston Police Badge]
Killed in the Line of Duty
Oct. 28, 1991

[Design with IARTLI"]

'Taking the first step with a good thought,
the second with the good word,
and the third with a good deed,
I enter paradise.'

[Logo of Knights of Columbus]
Readville"

The Officer Down Memorial Page for Officer Hurley, stated that he was killed while investigating a suspicious package that turned out to be a bomb. The package was on a driveway - it had apparently dropped off the bottom of a car. The bomb exploded, killing him and injuring the other officer with him. The person responsible for the bomb was brought to trial and convicted and is currently serving life in prison.
