The National Bank of New Zealand was established in 1872. This building was constructed 1911-1912 on the site of the bank's earlier building. This building used the facade of the earlier building as part of the facade for this building. The facade is in a massive Edwardian-Baroque style. The building is in good condition and now is used for offices.
The National Bank of New Zealand building is listed as a Category I building on the New Zealand Heritage Trust register.
