'The white Horse-Chesnut tree was planted in May 2000 by the Mayor at the time, Carole Maxwell Ellis.
It was planted as a council initiative to mark the special day of remembrance.

Anne Frank mentioned Horse-Chesnut trees in her diary and said she could see them from her attic.
Since then, the tree has become a symbol of her world renowned and iconic tale.'
