Margaret Hofmann Oaks Park
April 22, 2010

This grove of trees is named for long-time Austinite, Margret Hofmann, known as our city's "Tree Lady." Mrs. Hofmann's unceasing concern as a citizen, a mother and a member of the Austin City Council (1975-1977) has been to instill in everyone a reverence for life, including our countless beautiful trees, which she called Austin's oldest citizens. Her work is unsurpassed in furthering the preservation, protection and appreciation of our trees. Mrs Hofmann's contributions to the beauty of Austin include Think Trees Week, the passage of the first Tree Ordinance, and the creation of an Austin Tree Registry.

Margret Hofmann passed away on February 2, 2012.
