The accompanying plaque reads:
"This Sherman tank is presented by the South Alberta Light Horse to the City of Medicine Hat in Canada's Centennial Year and is a memorial to the Men of the South Alberta Regiment who used them during the 1939 - 1945 War."
Named after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman, the Sherman was the allies' primary tank during WWII, being used by all the allied armies involved. Over 42,000 were produced during the war. They were delivered with a variety of engines and armament as the war progressed.
