This type of post supported massive longitudinal beams of the house structure. This is a copy of the original post that stood on the grounds of Government House until 1913.
Huxwhukw, the Cannibal Bird is at the top of this pole, followed by K'umwugwe (the Chief of the Sea) who lives in a wealth filled house under the water guarded by sea lions. At the base is a grizzly with copper in its mouth, a symbol of wealth.
