Claysmore, the town, is pretty much gone now. So is the Claysmore elevator - gone down the road to a farm just south of Vermilion. It's visible to the south from the Yellowhead Highway as one passes Vermilion.

This is a one-time Alberta Wheat Pool Elevator originally built in the 1940s or 1950s by the Pool at Claysmore Alberta.

The Alberta Wheat Pool logo on the front is in amazingly good shape, considering its age. The yellow lettering on the side, "Farmer Owned Cooperative" is now barely legible.

Originally located 6 miles east of Mannville on the CN main line from Edmonton to Lloydminster, this elevator was sold for $13,000 sometime before 1999 and subsequently moved to a private farm directly south of Vermilion on Highway 41. It is presently used for grain storage on the farm.
