It is an English Heritage Grade II Listed Building and was listed on 19th July 1988.

The bridge itself originally carried the Sowerby Bridge to Halifax railway line for the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway. At this point it is crossing the Calder and Hebble Navigation, but it has so many arches because it also crosses the River Calder and Wakefield Road.

These days the the railway is known as the Caldervale Line because for a large part of its route it follows the River Calder valley. It is currently used by Northern Rail train and their franchise is due for renewal in April 2014.

Bridge Type: Arch

Bridge Usage: Railroad

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
